Railpool and Siemens Mobility in a Major Partnership for the Future of Rail Transport

On February 20, 2024, the European rail transport market saw further evolution with a significant announcement from the leasing company Railpool and the technology giant Siemens Mobility. The two companies announced the signing of a master framework agreement for the supply of up to 250 Siemens Vectron electric locomotives.

The agreement begins with an immediate order from Railpool for a total of 70 Vectron locomotives, which includes multi-system locomotives capable of operating on both AC and DC electric networks, as well as AC locomotives needed for specific regions. This first call-off is expected to significantly enhance Railpool's operational flexibility across Europe's rail network.

Specifically, the locomotives included in this contract can operate in the German, Austrian, and Swiss (DACH) regions, as well as the Scandinavian corridor. They also include versions of the Vectron that can be operated in up to 16 countries. This gives Railpool the ability to provide climate-friendly and efficient cross-border rail transport solutions across the continent.

Railpool's Vectron locomotives have a powerful output of 6.4 MW and a maximum speed of 230 km/h, and are currently approved for operation in 20 European countries. This means Railpool can offer its customers a high degree of operational flexibility and efficiency across Europe's extensive rail network. Torsten Lehnert, CEO of Railpool, emphasized that the contract focuses on maximizing customer operational flexibility and pursuing a forward-looking strategy. Albrecht Neumann, CEO of Rolling Stock at Siemens Mobility, also mentioned that the versatility of the Vectron allows customers to respond quickly to changing market demands and provide climate-friendly cross-border rail transport throughout Europe.

This partnership marks an important milestone for both Railpool and Siemens Mobility in the current environment where the importance of sustainable mobility solutions is growing in the European rail transport market. Continued investment in technological innovation and eco-friendly transport solutions will play a decisive role in Railpool's leadership of the future of rail transport across Europe.
